The Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the earliest known epics from ancient Mesopotamia, follows Gilgamesh, a semi-divine king of Uruk, as he navigates themes of friendship, mortality, and the search for meaning. His bond with Enkidu, a wild man created by the gods, leads them on adventures, including defeating Humbaba and the Bull of Heaven. However, Enkidu's death, decreed by the gods, drives Gilgamesh to seek immortality from Utnapishtim, the flood survivor granted eternal life. Ultimately, Gilgamesh learns that true legacy lies in the impact one has on others and the relationships formed, reflecting on the acceptance of life's transience and the pursuit of lasting values.
